After receiving a total of ten Washington Area Music Association Wammie nominations over the past decade, mister don finally took home the Childrens Vocalist awards for both 2004 and 2005! Seven of his nominations had been for Childrens Vocalist and three had been for Childrens Recording. In 2007, don was honored to receive the 2006 Wammie award for Childrens Artist, which consolidated the vocalist and duo/group awards into a single category. Unusual pets, insomnia woes, sibling rivalry, and fables about the importance of gratitude, caring for the Earth and forgiving others are some of the themes that run through don's award-winning music for children. Whether he's at a school, church, child care center, bookstore, park, festival or backyard party, mister don is one of the best-loved children's entertainers in the business. Sing-alongs, motion songs, and lots of rhythm instruments keep it lively and fun for everyone! Here are some examples of don's original children's songs that appear on his 25-song children's CD, "mister don":
WHEN YOU'RE HOLDIN' A GRUDGE
A grudge is like an animal who lives inside your head It loves to have attention and gets stronger when it's fed It even likes to whisper when you're asleep in bed There's nothing like the feeling when you hold onto a grudge
When you hold a grudge It fills your mind And gives you reasons To be unkind When you need to bend You refuse to budge Oh there's nothin' like When you're holdin' a grudge
You think it's really tiny but it grows at such a pace It wrinkles up your brow and puts a frown upon your face Then gives you such a headache it must be outta space There's nothing like the feeling when you hold onto a grudge
REPEAT CHORUS
A grudge is like a monster Who bites the hand that feeds it And every time you let it out You should wonder why you need it
REPEAT CHORUS
No there's nothing like When you're holdin' a grudge

PUT IT BACK
When you've played with all your toys and you leave them off the shelf Don't you hear your Mother calling, "Come and put some back yourself" Now i think that Mother Nature is no different in her view She doesn't like to see a mess so she'd tell us what to do
Put it back (Put it back) Then we'll have enough to share Put it back (Put it back) Show your Mother that you care Put it back (Put it back) That's a promise, not a dare There'll be more for us when we recycle, my friend Put it back
When i walk around the house and my toys get in the way 'Cause i left a lot of litter there's no room for me to play When we travel 'round this country we see too much trash to burn And hear our mother wonder when we'll finally start to learn to
REPEAT CHORUS
We can start with paper and plastic Aluminum, glass and wood We can work to protect the environment So our Mother can live as she should
REPEAT CHORUS
So return to the Earth what she's given us first Put it back We recycle today so our children's children's children's children's children can play Put it back

Sibling Rivalry
SHE'S MY SISTER
Mostly sassy, never sweet Always playin' in the street She's my sister I say quiet, she makes noise Then she breaks my favorite toys She's my sister
When Mom and Dad aren't looking
She messes with my things
But if i try to tell on her
She puts on angel wings
She's my sister
She's a pain
If i want sunshine
She'll dance for rain
I wonder if she'll
ever get a brain
She's my sister
During recess at the school
She's the one who makes the rules
She's my sister
She annoys me every day
'Cause she never goes away
She's my sister
My friends agree she's bossy
But say she's not so bad
I wish they had to live with her
I know she'd drive 'em mad
She's my sister
She's a pain
If i want sunshine
She'll dance for rain
I wonder if she'll
ever get a brain
She's my sister
Sometimes i think i'd like to sell her
But know she can't be worth too much
So maybe i'll just paint her yellow
And charge a half a dime for all the kids to touch
She'd be worth her weight in gold
Make me rich before i'm old
She's my sister
We could march in the parade
As her coach i'd have it made
She's my sister
We'd even join the circus
And travel 'round the world
The kids would come from far and wide
To see the golden girl
She's my sister
Good as gold
We'll put her picture
Where toys are sold
We'll make a million
When our story's told
She's my sister

And turnabout's fair play:
MY BROTHER'S ALWAYS THERE!
I catch him sneakin' cookies
then he blames it on me
He hogs the family sofa
when i'm watchin' T.V.
He's peekin' through the window
when i think nobody sees
And when i want some time alone
he won't let me be
They say that he's my brother
But he's my enemy
I hafta pick the toys up
after he left 'em out
He always gets his way
with a tantrum or pout
So many silly questions
i could punch him in the snout
The problem with my brother
i know without a doubt
Is every time i turn around
My brother's always there!
My brother's always there!
I have to take him everywhere
He always has a runny nose
and superhero clothes
And everybody stares
at his dalmatian underwear
It's so unfair i have to share
My brother's always there!
"Stop pickin' on your brother!"
are the words that i hear
From grownups who don't notice
how he spits in my ear
He may be gettin' bigger
but he's dumber every year
To fix my little brother
could take a whole career
It sometimes makes me want to scream
My brother's always there!
REPEAT CHORUS
I used to go to movies
till my brother tagged along
And picked a quiet moment
to release his latest song
He broke my science project
when he played it like a gong
And then my guilty brother
convinced them i was wrong!
His whining just goes on and on
And on and on and on!
REPEAT CHORUS
It's so unfair, it's so unfair
My brother's always there!

Pure Silliness!
HOW'M I GONNA GET A DRINK OF WATER?
After midnight i'm so thirsty that it wakes me up And i climb from bed but know i shouldn't oughta When i tiptoe to the bathroom someone took my cup How'm i gonna get a drink of water? I could try to ask my parents but they're both asleep And they'd look at me like someone else's daughter
I can hear my father growling, "Try and count some sheep!"
How'm i gonna get a drink of water?
How'm i gonna get a drink of water?
I only want a little sip or two
How'm i gonna get a drink of water?
What more am i gonna have to do?
When i sneak into my sister's room i hear her snore
And i bump into the basketball we bought her
Then i trip on all the treasure rocks across the floor
How'm i gonna get a drink of water?
So i crawl into the kitchen and turn on the sink
But the faucet flow just keeps on gettin' hotter
I don't want to turn the light on 'cause it makes me blink
How'm i gonna get a drink of water?
REPEAT CHORUS
If i turned into a mermaid i could drink -- and how!
And i'd swim just like a seal or an otter
But the wetness of the ocean doesn't help me now
How'm i gonna get a drink of water
I could go and get the garden hose but it's too cold
So i'll run away to Texas or Nevada
'Cause the world is full of troubles when you're five years old
How'm i gonna get a drink of water
REPEAT CHORUS
When i make my mind up that i'm gonna run away
I decide i'll be a painter or a potter
So i go to get my pillow and my potting clay
And right beside my bed's a cup of water!
Now i feel a little silly and i want to cry
Like the times my sister teased so much i fought her
But i've got another problem now and wonder why
How'm i gonna drink up all this water?
How'm i gonna drink up all this water?
I only want a little sip or two
How'm i gonna drink up all this water?
What more am i gonna have to do?
How'm i gonna drink up all this water?
I only want a little sip or two
How'm i gonna drink up all this water?
What more am i gonna have to do?
What more am i gonna have to do?
What more am i gonna have to do?
